Shanekia Cole

Health Homes Nurse Practitioner

Shanekia Cole was born in Bossier City, LA, the second of three girls into a military family. Her father’s career led her family to Fort Worth, TX where she attended middle and high school. She graduated from Eastern Hills High School and was awarded an ROTC Nursing Scholarship. She then went on to attend Prairie View A&M University majoring in nursing. In 2001 she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing and was commissioned into the Army Nurse Corps. She served on Active Duty in the Army for the 12 years working in inpatient care on Medical-Surgical, Post Anesthesia Care and Same Day Surgery units and in Preventive Medicine as a registered nurse. She held various leadership positions such as Charge Nurse and Chief of Army Public Health Nursing in medical treatment facilities where she was assigned. She retired from the Army in 2013.

Before she retired from the Army, Shanekia was accepted to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where she pursued and obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing specializing in Family Practice. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and has worked in ambulatory care as a Primary Care provider focusing on chronic disease management, acute care, disease prevention and health promotion after her military career.

Shanekia currently serves as Health Homes Nurse Practitioner at Leading By Example and brings her experience and passion for addressing the health needs of individuals, families and communities from a wellness and prevention perspective.
Shanekia is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Army Nurse Corps Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Prairie View A&M National Alumni Association, Disabled American Veterans and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Shanekia is extremely proud to be married to Ronald Cole and of her 3 wonderful children. She also has a passion for photography and loves spending time with family and friends.
