Leading By Example (Mental Health and Family Strengthening Institute)

Mr. Subramonianpillai Teal is a native Baltimorean who grew up in East Baltimore City. Mr. Teal graduated from Southern High School. Upon completing High School Mr. Teal endeavored to be the first college graduate in the history of his family. In pursuit of that dream, Mr. Teal left Baltimore City to attend the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Mr. Teal’s experience on the Eastern Shore helped him to discover that his life purpose is to heal families and communities. Mr. Teal graduated from UMES with a Bachelors degree in Sociology and eventually went on to receive his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work.

Upon completing undergraduate school, Mr. Teal began practicing Social Work as a Family Services Coordinator in a Head Start Program located in the Murphy Homes projects. While serving at Head Start, Mr. Teal facilitated community organizing, male and fatherhood development services, case management services, and training to the families in one of the most impoverished and socially challenged communities in Baltimore City.

Upon completing graduate school, Mr. Teal began consulting as a therapist and trainer for education, residential and non-residential treatment programs. As a consultant, Mr. Teal facilitated individual, group, and family therapy as well as staff development and training for Baltimore City Public Schools, Head Start Programs, Community Mental Health Centers, and various residential and non-residential treatment programs.

In 2000 Mr. Teal began serving as the Chief Administrative Officer of the WIN Family Services Treatment Foster Care Program. As Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Teal ensured that all tiers of the agency’s hierarchy effectively interfaced to ensure optimum service delivery, administrative productivity, and effective clinical outcomes for children and families in foster care. Mr. Teal also successfully expanded and diversified the service continuum of the program during his tenure.

Mr. Teal is currently the Co-founder and Clinical Director of Leading By Example, a Mental Health and Family Strengthening Institution that provides a plethora of mental health and family strengthening support services.

Mr. Teal’s crowning achievement is his 14 year marriage to his wife Mrs. Leslie Teal and his two children. Mr. Teal’s experience within his own family has made the greatest contribution to shaping his character and commitment to service in the community.

Johnnie Fielding

Program Director and Co-Founder
Leading By Example (Mental Health and Family Strengthening Institute)

Mr. Fielding has been working in the human service field for over 12years. He is a Baltimore native and a product of the Baltimore City Public School System. After completing Lake Clifton Eastern High School, Mr. Fielding went on to attend Morgan State University where he declared a major in social work because it connected him to his passion for helping others. Mr. Fielding attained his Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Morgan State University in 2003. With an exceptional GPA, Mr. Fielding was eligible for the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work’s accelerated master’s degree program. Mr. Fielding enrolled in the accelerated program and attained his Masters of Social Work degree with a concentration in children and families in one year.

As an active Morgan State University Alumni, Mr. Fielding is currently serving on the Community Advisory Board for Morgan State University’s Bachelor of Social Work Program. Mr. Fielding’s work on this board is helping to shape social work education and academic preparation of the next generation of community servants and healers.

Mr. Fielding began his Social Work career at the Woodbourne Children’s Diagnostic Treatment Center working as a Direct Care Professional. This experience gave Mr. Fielding the opportunity to work with youth in a therapeutic residential setting. During this experience, Mr. Fielding worked as a part of a multi-disciplinary team which was responsible for assessing, planning and implementing interventions for residents.

Mr. Fielding went on to work with WIN Family services, which was Mr. Fielding first opportunity to work with entire family systems. Later, Mr. Fielding moved on to Hope Health Systems where he was employed as a full time therapist. As a therapist, Mr. Fielding conducted client intakes, facilitated assessments, and developed treatment plans. In addition, Mr. Fielding facilitated individual, family, and group therapy sessions utilizing the Cognitive-Behavioral approach.

Mr. Fielding went on to work for Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake where he assisted adults and youth with education and vocation development.

Mr. Fielding is currently the Co-founder and Program Director of Leading By Example, a mental health services and family strengthening institute. Leading by Example provides a plethora of mental health and family strengthening services to adults and youth in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.

Finally and most importantly Mr. Fielding is a devoted family man and proud father of one son. Mr. Fielding’s commitment to his own family continues to shape him as a devoted servant in his community.
